Our Mission

Project Literacy Douglas County (PLDC) is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is to upgrade the skill-set of Douglas County residents in need of our services. This is in keeping with the current National Literacy Act 1999.

“Literacy is . . . an individual’s ability to read, write, and speak in English, and compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the job and in society, to achieve one’s goals, and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.”

What We Do

PLDC is a FREE one on one tutoring program for adults. We offer personalized one on one TUTORING in reading, math, writing, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL).

Our Distance Learning Program augments our traditional services and can be coordinated to fit your needs. If you have difficulty with transportation, childcare, are unable to meet a tutor one on one at a scheduled time, or for whatever reason it might be, you can call us and we will help you get started with your on-line studies.
