| Our Mission
Project Literacy Douglas County (PLDC) is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is to upgrade the skill-set of Douglas County residents in need of our services. This is in keeping with the current National Literacy Act 1999. “Literacy is . . . an individual’s ability to read, write, and speak in English, and compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the job and in society, to achieve one’s goals, and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.” What We Do PLDC offers Douglas County residents the opportunity to develop literacy skills through specialized programs. These skills include Basic Reading, Basic Math, Writing, English as a Second Language, and Basic Computer courses.
Classes We Offer We have classes to help you learn to use your new electronic gadgets. Whatever it is, we can teach you to use it! Call PLDC to set up a class. We offer small class sizes and individualized instruction. Just bring your new device with you and soon you’ll be a pro! We also have regular on-going computer classes. We’ll teach you how to use your computer, e-mail, scanners, printers, how to shop online, and more. Tutoring Services PLDC offers one-on-one tutoring by trained volunteers for those who want to improve their literacy skills. These skills can help them on a daily basis with such things as learning how to deal with money, making change and writing checks. We also offer GED classes and Oregon Driver's License written exam classes. For details, see our Tutoring Information page. |
